About Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University
Established in 1965 ,Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) is among the top postgraduate medical institutions.. The Institute of Postgraduate Medical Research (IPGMR), which was founded in December 1965. The government turned IPGMR into a Medical University in 1998 in order to improve the country's capabilities for higher medical education and research. It has a well deserved reputation for delivering excellent postgraduate education in a variety of fields. It was renamed after the first President of Bangladesh, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman by Act 1 of 1998 of Jatiyo Sangshad
The Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University is also recognized by Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council and is approved by World Health Education (WHO) and NMC (National Medical Commission). It offers a five-year course of study leading to a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) degree and the medium of Instruction is English. After completion of course, a one-year internship is compulsory for all graduates.
